This guide shows what to do as soon as your GeHost server is ready.
1. Find your access details
Sign in at painel.gehost.com.br, open Services and click the server. The service panel shows the IP address, the username and how to connect. It also has the actions (start, stop, restart) and the password change. Every action asks for confirmation first.
2. Connect over SSH
On Windows (PowerShell), macOS or Linux (Terminal), run:
ssh user@SERVER_IP
Replace user and SERVER_IP with the details from the panel. If the panel shows a different port, use ssh -p PORT user@SERVER_IP.
3. First precautions
- Update the system (Ubuntu or Debian):
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y - Prefer an SSH key over a password. Create the key on your computer with
ssh-keygen -t ed25519and send it to the server:- macOS or Linux:
ssh-copy-id user@SERVER_IP - Windows (PowerShell):
type $env:USERPROFILE\.ssh\id_ed25519.pub | ssh user@SERVER_IP "mkdir -p ~/.ssh && cat >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys"
- macOS or Linux:
- Turn on a firewall, allowing SSH first. If
ufwis not installed:sudo apt install ufw. Allow the SSH port withsudo ufw allow 22/tcp(default port) orsudo ufw allow PORT/tcpif the panel shows a different port. Check the rule withsudo ufw show addedand only then runsudo ufw enable. Open only the ports your project uses. - Back up your data regularly.
